Day 1
Arrive in Tokyo. Staying at design hotel Claska, or
Park Hyatt Tokyo (forever henceforth synonymous with
the film Lost in Translation), be taken into
the capable hands of your guide who will bring you
through the back alleys of Tokyo and introduce you
to the secret world of nomiyas, small
intimate clubs with no signboards to belie their
location nor an address in case you're looking for
co-ordinates to return to.
The nomiya culture is all the rage with
Tokyo's beau-monde, frequented by the likes of Rei
Kawakubo and Marc Jacobs, Takashi Murakami and Marc
Newson. It's a side of Tokyo that goes unnoticed by
the casual observer and newbies find hard to break
into.
Day 2
Go on a sensorial
safari of Tokyo that takes you through places and
experiences as diverse as an ancient incense
ceremony(kodo), a visit through a fish market and a
tour of Comme des Garcons' fragrance atelier.
To round off your
sensorial safari, have dinner tonight at the Aronia
de Takazawa (dependent on table availability).
Helmed by the dashing Yoshiaki Takazawa, the Aronia
de Takazawa is known for its theatrical fare.
Day 3-6
Transfer today, to
Hokkaido for some skiing.
Day 7
Transfer back to
Tokyo. Day spent at leisure.
From here, continue
to the city of Muroto to sample the waters praised
by Shu Uemura for having 'absolutely beneficial
water for the skin'. Uemura's admiration for the
beneficial properties of the city's waters having
resulted in the Utoco Deep Sea Therapy Centre,
allows guests to sample the city's waters in a
sleek, relaxing space.
Or go on to Hokkaido,
exploring the lesser known islands off Japan- known
commonly as Japan's 'last frontiers'. |
