This itinerary combines
a cruise down the Mekong
with a stay in an
eco-lodge and a luxury
boutique resort in Luang
Prabang.
Day
1- Leaving the pier for a cruise down the Mekong to Pakbeng,
the riverboat makes one stop to observe the rural life of the river
tribes. Buffet lunch is served on board. Boat arrives at lodge (wooden
houses) before sunset. Dinner is on a terrace overlooking the Mekong
River.
Day 2- Pakbeng
Breakfast is served at terrace around 07h30 a.m.
Optional visit of the
morning market at Pakbeng Village where the nearby villagers and hill
tribes buy and exchange goods.
Boat departs again at 08h 30, making a stop at Ban Baw to observe the
distillation of traditional moonshine.
Lunch served on board while cruising down to Kamu Village where you
will be checking into your lodge.
In the afternoon, a variety of activities presents itself- from rice
planting and harvesting to gold panning (between January to June) where
anything you find is yours, jungle walks to search for medicinal plants
and trekking through rainforests to waterfalls.
Traditional fishing techniques can also be learnt(any catch can be
sampled over dinner), as are a local village visit and an archery
contest in the village! Overnight Kamu Lodge.
Day
3: Breakfast at lodge, after relaxing and visiting to Kamu
village, cruise down to Luang Prabang (UNESCO world heritage town) by
Kamu Riverboat to Pak Ou village at the mouth of Nam Ou
River, boat stops for a trip to visit "Tam Ting Caves of thousand
Buddha"s", then arrives Luang Prabang and lunch.
Day
3-6:Luang Prabang
Based at the La Residence Phou
Vao, you will have a leisurely check-in before
enjoying an hour long massage treatment before
dinner. The spa treatments here derive from ancient
royal Laotian massage techniques and are an especial
treat to round off the cruise. Dinner is at the hotel
tonight.
Day 4: Enjoy a full day cruise
to the Pak Ou Caves after breakfast today.
Accompanied by your personal guide, you will be
stopping for a picnic on a desert shore.
Day 5: Day is at leisure.
Should you wake up early this morning, do witness
the merit-making ceremony on the streets of Luang
Prabang before exploring the many temples that dot
this small town. Dinner tonight is a
spectacular affair, held in sacred gardens lit by
hundreds of candles. You will be served by a litany
of waiters and serenaded to music, culminating in
the release of a hot air balloon. This marks the end
of your journey in Laos.
Day 6: Check out today for
your onward international flight.
