Dubbed Australia's
Lindbergh, Charles Kingsford Smith had disappeared
over the Andaman sea in 1935 during an attempt to
break the England-Australia speed record.
Burmese fishermen had
later found remains of the plane (including a
still-inflated wheel), identified as parts of the
Lady Southern Cross,a monoplane owned by Sir Charles
Kingsford Smith on the shores of Aye Island on the
Gulf of Martaban. In 2009, a Sydney film crew
reported having found the Lady Southern Cross at Aye
Island in the Andaman sea.
