Falconry Trip with the Kazakh Eagle Hunters

  • An itinerary created for falconers and adventurous cultural enthusiasts alike, this trip will have you based in the most luxurious gers overlooking the Mongolian steppes in Ulan Baatar, engage in courtship rituals on horseback and accompany Kazakh horsemen as they go falconeering.

  • Day 1: International arrival from Beijing. Transfer to your luxury ger with glass windows overlooking the vast steppes of Mongolia and a magnificent central bath in marble. In the afternoon, transfer on horseback to the Bogd Khan Uul National Park, one of the world's oldest national parks home to wolves and foxes and endangered species of hare and deer. You can continue on your trek to the impressive Chinggis Khaan ger camp where it is possible to switch to a camel. Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant. (L,D)

  • Day 2: Flight to Ulgii. Upon arrival we visit the Kazakh Culture Museum. Afterwards we drive to the west, across the Sagsai river where the camp is set. (L,D)
  • Day 3: Day trip to Tsengel Khairkhan Mt: Here you'll find yourself riding side by side with the legendary Kazakh eagle hunters, a group of people who'd fled communist-era Kazakhstan to the remote mountains on the Kazakh-Mongol border. It is here that the Kazakh traditions are best preserved.

You can also witness poetry duels- another significant tradition which the Kazakhs in Mongolia have preserved and are famed for. Witness, too, courtship rituals on horseback and a nomadic version of polo involving a goatskin. End the day with a Kazakh feast with traditional song and dance.

The next day, drive to the local airstrip for the flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival at the airport transfer to your luxury ger for dinner and overnight. The next day, transfer to the airport for the flight to Beijing. (B,L,D)
