This classic itinerary, combining
the Northern Route in Tanzania with a
spectacular beach retreat at the end of
your safari is an excellent introduction to
the East African luxury safari. The
designated entry point here is Dar Es
Salaam but depending on where you are
arriving from, can be similarly tweaked to
be Kilimanjaro- allowing for a more
efficient base to explore Northern
Tanzania. The trip ends in Vamizi Island in Mozambique- a retreat with
serious eco credentials. Day 1:
Dar es Salaam. Arrival in Dar Es Salaam. Overnight in
boutique hotel Oyster Bay. Oozing East
African chic, the Oyster Bay hotel, located in
the Oyster Bay district of Dar es Salaam
serves as a perfect base for the beginning and
end of your stay in Tanzania.
Day
2:
Flight and land transfer to Ngorongoro.
Well deserving of its place on any 'Places to
see before you die' list, the Ngorongoro
Crater is a spectacular destination. Based at the delightfully baroque
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, perched right in front of the
Ngorongoro Crater, these boma-like
structures house the most urbane luxuries in the remoteness of
Ngorongoro. With electric blankets, a warm fire and exquisitely plush
accoutrements, the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has a charmed location, an
intimation of which you will receive when you are instructed to request
for an askari at all times before stepping
out of your boma-style lodging(for
fear of a errant Cape buffalo on
the grounds of the hotel). Forming a
Harry Potteresque silhouette in
the evenings, you will be treated to a positively magical view in the
morning- with the mist arising from the crater against the background of
the green surroundings of the lodge.
Day
3-6: Transfer after a leisurely breakfast for a late morning
flight connection to the Serengeti.Based at the Singita Serengeti
(choose between 3 very different styles), explore this extraordinary
private reserve that is about the size of the Masai Mara! Catering
towards the rehabilitation of the black rhino, this private reserve
spells more like a visionary social experiment than a luxury lodge.
Based in a private game reserve for the next three days.
The Singita Serengeti. a private game reserve offering superlative
luxury in the Serengeti will be your base for the next three nights. The
size of the Masai Mara, this impressive game reserve is also dedicated
towards the preservation of the black rhino.
From daily game drives,
activities also include daily game drives, horse riding, hot air balloon
rides and spa treatments (almost literally) in the bush! Game drives
are supplemented with exquisite food and should the need present itself,
there is a Dermalogica spa within the privileged surrounds of the
Singita Serengeti reserve. Day
6-9: From the Serengeti, take a transfer flight to DAR before
connecting to the island of Vamizi (an island in remote Northern Mozambique with the
most quaint airport) via private charter. With access to one of the
world's top diving sites, the island of Vamizi also has some of the most
pristine (and probably the last few, unbleached) coral reefs in the
world.
With illustrious past guests and serious eco-credentials (with
a turtle conservation project, in-depth marine surveys, a low level
whale research programme and a dolphin research programme), Vamizi is a
place that, whilst not appealing to everybody, still has that elusive,
magical 'paradise lost' quality.
Day
10: DAR. Fly back by private charter to Dar es Salaam for
another night at the Oyster bay before onward flight back.
