Esoteric Monasteries and Elephant Sanctuaries
Brief | Bangkok | Chiang Mai | Chiang Rai | Koh Samui | Prices
This 10-day itinerary was specially crafted by Urbane Nomads in partnership with Four Seasons Thailand for the 2009 Tibet House Auction at Christie's NY. It starts with a private blessing ceremony
on the haunting ruins of Ayutthaya, arriving early evening to receive a private blessing by a monk on the grounds of this World Heritage Site. The itinerary combines stays in the iconic
Four Seasons Tented Camps in the Golden Triangle with visits to esoteric monasteries
led by a legendary tattooed monk on horseback, a few days amidst the lush rice terraces of Mae Rim Valley and ends with a few days in the FS Koh Samui, an away-from-it
-all hillside resort overlooking the Gulf of Siam.
Day
1: Bangkok Arrive in Bangkok, transferring to the FS Bangkok, located in
the heart of the city.
Drive in the afternoon to the haunting ruins of Ayutthaya, arriving
early evening for a private blessing ceremony that will kickstart your
journey in Thailand.
Day 2-4: Transferring to Northern Thailand today, retreat to the cool
mountains and verdant fields that is the Mae Rim Valley surrounding the
Four Seasons Chiang Mai. Well-known for its spa and cooking school, the
FS Chiang Mai, voted T+L's 500 World's Best Hotels 'delivers an
authentic Siamese up-country atmosphere'. Day trips to the city centre
of Chiang Mai to visit the weekly markets (if your visit so coincides).
Day
4-7: There's a certain cache to the idea of camping in the
infamous Golden Triangle and with the Four Seasons camps, you'll be
doing just this in style. Hand-hammered copper bathtubs and high-thread
count linens make up this exquisite camping experience in the Golden
Triangle. You can spend time with the elephants- learning from the
mahouts on how to care for them or go on riverboat excursions. Urbane
Nomads can arrange for you to visit a legendary monastery known for its
band of monks on horseback. Led by a tattooed ex-kickboxer, the founder
of the monastery occupies an almost messianic position amongst the local
tribes where legend has it that a monk on horseback, covered in tattoos
will one day save their community.
Day
7-9: Koh Samui Round up the trip in Koh Samui, spending two days at the
FS Koh Samui. Overlooking the Gulf of Siam, the FS Koh Samui embodies
Thai resort chic at its best.
Day 10: Fly back to Bangkok
today, spending one night at the FS Bangkok before departing for your
international flight the next day. Prices (Indicative Only)
From USD5250pp, on double occupancy basis, land only. This trip can be
extended to include the Chiva-Som, a mere 2-3 hours' from Thailand's
capital of Bangkok or to the pristine Burmese Himalayas.
