Located amongst
the paddy fields and accessible only via a 150-meter
long driveway and bridge, the villa is in a most
idyllic, romantic position, with the surrounding
gardens creating an amphitheatre-like formation.
Mature gardens and the various water features come
together in the dramatic, lava rock swimming pool.
A 5-bedroom villa, each with its own en-suite
bathroom, represents one of the most exciting design
statements amongst the island's villas. Blurring the
dichotomy between the indoors and the outdoors, as
most of the bathrooms in the island's villas are
wont to do, the bathrooms of this property are
exceptionally striking in its luxury of space,
incorporation of outdoors in and the sense of ritual
given to the bathing process. With a sunken bath
flush within another water feature protected by a
thatched cabana in the garden, guests are able to
take a bath in the garden flanked by two Balinese
figurines, which are in turn protected by the four
supporting structures of the cabana.
All bedrooms are equipped with DVD players and
quality sound systems. The master suite is set upon
a wooden deck atop the riverbank, and on the deck is
a daybed from which guests can enjoy the tranquility
of the surrounding nature. The inside of the suite
is decorated in the style of modern Chinese luxury,
with an enormous bed with a frame of a full-length
floral wall, juxtaposed with dark teak beams and
gorgeous ceramic work. There is a corner lounge area
and a study room that features an admirable vase
collection, displayed in built-in alcoves and
illuminated by a striking golden Buddha lamp. The
en-suite master bathroom is a spacious teak bale,
boasting a sunken Kerobokan stone tub where male and
female pembantu (helper statues) are poised.
Adjoining this is a shower room and an enclosed
lawn, perfect for private sunbathing. Next to the
bale is a rectangular lotus pond with stepping
stones, and another deck, which provides a suitable
place for meditation.
The next two bedrooms are of similar design, with
varying differences. The second and third bedrooms
are canopied twin-beds, and share an outdoor lounge
with a sculpted garden. Spacious dressing rooms and
en-suite bathrooms are accessible through Oriental
glass doors, and both rooms have their own private
terrace. The walls are white-washed and feature
local stamps and designs, and the cushions are
plentifully strewn and white to match. The other
bedrooms are designed either in a mix of teak wood
and natural fiber finishings, with Japanese-inspired
ornaments and ornate Balinese carved doors. One room
also has a private deck overlooking the river valley
and the rice terraces ahead of that.
The main living space is housed in a large pavilion,
and is a long, open-air living and dining area with
kitchen enclosed at one end. The dining table seats
twelve, and above it hangs a beautiful teak
chandelier. This space is tastefully furnished with
an eclectic mix of lounge chairs, sofas, antiques
from Lombok, and modern wall hangings.
