Beyond luxury lodges and private game
reserves, Urbane Nomads puts together
itineraries that include walking safaris
taking you off the lodge trek, luxury mobile
horseriding safaris, exploring remote parts
of Africa via a heli-safari as well as a
more relaxed itinerary introducing the
luxury dhow vessel, tracing the Swahili
coast.
Our idea of a safari lodge goes beyond the
traditional game-viewing safari in Africa.
On offer too, is a trip to the Burmese
Himalayas, where activities range from
rafting (to be met by an advanced team who'd
apparently set up a picnic for you on an
isolated strip of beach) to village treks.
Accommodation is in a luxury private lodge,
built using indigenous materials though
clearly drawing inspiration from African
luxury lodges, set up to standards of
unexpected luxury, especially given the
in-the-middle-of-nowhere coordinates. Then
there's chimp trekking in remote Mahale, a
ridiculously-difficult-to-get-to (but then,
that's just part of the appeal) in the
Indian Himalayas or the lodges in South
America used as rest stops on your horse
riding trek en route to Machu Picchu.

A rustic luxury safari-
combining nights in star
beds in Northern Kenya,
a retro-chic camp in the
Masai Mara and nights
under the stars on a
luxury dhow in Lamu.
Spanning some of the
more remote corners of
Kenya and Tanzania, this
itinerary is for those
who are looking for a
cultural safari
experience that goes
beyond the Big Five.
An ultra-luxury safari
combining the classic
Northern Tanzanian route
with a spectacular beach
retreat at the end of
the stay.
