Calling themselves the
'travel mixologists', Urbane
Nomads allows (and even
encourages) clients to tweak
itineraries in line with
their own interests. The new
Singapore-based travel
agency caters to a new breed
of savvy, well-travelled,
restless individuals. It
promises to take you down
the road less
well-travelled, minus the
difficulties of getting
there.
Its idea of snowboarding and
fantastic apres-ski
coincides with a spell on
the mountains of Faraya
Mzaar, Lebanon. Come July
next year, it's organizing a
trip to Pakistan to witness
a no-rules polo match on
what is known to be the
highest polo grounds in the
world. And for those who
want an idyllic getaway,
Urbane Nomads also scours
the world for the most
romantic spots that promise
to be destinations unto
themselves.

First, we had molecular
cuisine, now the concept of
travel is being repackaged
by Urbane Nomads, a
Singaporean travel company
with a difference. Urbane
Nomads seeks out the unique
in every destination (and
they seek out some pretty
unique destinations too!)
and bundle it with select
accommodation and unusual
travel modes. Take their
eight-day trip to Lebanon,
which combines visits to
historical sites with a
gourmand's tour of Beirut's
finest restaurants and an
after-hours itinerary to
keep you hopping all night.
The trip miraculously even
includes a day on Lebanon's
ski slopes.

Sri Lanka, for such a
compact country, plays host
to such diverse landscapes
and attractions that it's
possible to combine
experiences as varied as a
safari experience, beach
layovers, city stopovers,
cultural immersions and
retreats amidst lush
vegetation- typically things
you'd have expected to
travel multi destinations
for.

Much of the tourist

Best Destination Hotels in
Asia
We'd come with a
list of what we think are
the best destination hotels
in Asia. Some, like the Six
Senses Ninh Vanh Bay and
Amanpulo- virtually
private islands, personify
the traditional idea of a
destination hotel. Yet,
others, like the Mandarin
Oriental Dhara Devi with its
recreation of
an ancient Lanna Kingdom is
a veritable destination unto
itself. Others, like the Nam
Hai and the Knai Bang Chatt,
have, through the media
interest
and high profile clients
they attract, brought a
renewed interest in
relatively undiscovered or
'forgotten' areas.
These hotels have a
commitment, overt or
otherwise, to responsible
tourism, drawing upon
the immediate community for
much of its staffing
needs, involvement in
community projects and/or
channeling a predetermined
portion of its profits to a
community project.
Yet, what defines these
destination hotels are the
blessed natural settings
framing the hotel, whether
it be the
almost-transformative
scenery of snow-capped
Himalayan mountains of the
Malikha Lodge or the South
China Sea of Nam Hai, an
enchanting stretch of beach
of the Tanjong Jara Resort
or the views of sacred
mountains and lush greenery
of the La Residence Phou Vao.
