Sports

We'll arrange for polo tours in Argentina, coupling a stay in an estancia with practice chukkas and lessons with the resident pro, together with a ticket to watch the finals of the Argentine Open (season-dependent) or have you engage in a few chukkas with the resident polo professional in Cordoba, the fabled land of horses in Argentina.

Alternatively, witness the resurgence(or reconstruction) of polo in Mongolia within the comforts of your ger(yurts) in a remote part of Mongolia. Whether you intend to participate or not, in this polo game unfettered by Western rules (as the Mongolians during the Genghis Khan era must have played it, we can only imagine), there are a host of other activities for you- from horseback riding tours to flyfishing.

On the subject of no-rules polo, travel to Pakistan, making your way through the scenic mountain-top-and-lake views of Chitral to the mystical Shandur Pass- the highest polo grounds in the world hosting an annual polo tournament with equally fabled roots. Accommodation is by luxury tent.

For more exotic horses, ride the miniature horses in a village outside Tehran, said to be Alexander the Great's favourite horse for its nimbleness, hardiness and lightfootedness. Originally thought to be extinct after the Iranian Revolution (when horseriding became one of the activities frowned upon by the new mullah-cracy as a bourgeois activity), when these horses were used to test for possible landmine spots in the aftermath of the Iran-Iraq war, they were re-discovered again in this village outside Tehran.

For supplementary sporting activities to a journey, try sailing in Kep, an almost-forgotten seaside town in Cambodia that used to be the favourite weekend retreat for wealthy Cambodians during the days of Sihanouk. Apart from the fishing boats out to sea for their daily catch in the morning (also a picture-worthy moment), you could almost feel like you had the sea to yourself.

For exotic, non-traditional locations, try skiing in the mountains of Dizin outside Tehran, sample the excellent apres-ski in the skiing towns outside Beirut or try heli-skiing in the comparatively mainstream (but no less spectacular) Himalayas. Whether you decide to surf on the mythic waters of Bali, where locals still make offerings to sea gods and goddesses, or on the dramatic Cantabrian sea, rest assured that we've got some interesting ideas and locations planned for your next sporting endeavour.
